Free Hot Drink & Meal

Every Monday, Newjoy welcomes people from every walk of life for food, friendship and practical support.

A warm welcome. A hot meal. A community of care.

Established in April 2022 in response to the hardship and uncertainty created by the COVID-19 pandemic, Newjoy’s Free Hot Drink & Meal Community Initiative puts the love of Christ into practical action. We welcome individuals and families regardless of their background, beliefs or circumstances.

Join us every Monday

Community welcome and support: 10:00 am–1:00 pm. Hot meal service is advertised from 11:30 am–1:00 pm. Please check bank-holiday arrangements before travelling.

Hosted with the support of Yam Spice African Restaurant, Bradford. Contact Newjoy for current venue details and accessibility information.

Our mission

We seek to demonstrate Christ’s love through generous hospitality; ensure people experiencing hardship can access a warm drink and meal; create belonging for vulnerable individuals and families; and offer encouragement, pastoral support and signposting to appropriate professional services when needed.

What happens on Mondays?

Hot drinks and breakfast

Tea, coffee or hot chocolate, with toast, biscuits, cakes or other refreshments to start the day with warmth and conversation.

Nutritious hot meals

Our volunteers prepare a changing menu that may include pasta, rice and curry, chicken, meat, soups, burgers and other nourishing dishes.

Friendship, prayer and encouragement

A welcoming place to be heard. Prayer is available for anyone who requests it, without being a condition of receiving food or support.

Food-bank takeaways and signposting

When supplies allow, guests can take home non-perishable groceries. We can also help people find appropriate local employment, welfare and community support.

Working together for Bradford

The initiative is led by Newjoy International Gospel Church. Our community relationships include Yam Spice African Restaurant, Neighbourly and participating retailers providing surplus food, alongside links with the Department for Work and Pensions, Bradford Council, the African Caribbean Achievement Project and Purpose Achieving Life Ltd. The involvement and availability of external partners may vary.

We welcome conversations with local businesses, food donors, volunteers, organisations and individuals who share our commitment to serving people with dignity.
